Track: Tomahawk announce long-awaited return with ‘Business Casual’ and forthcoming album

TOMAHAWK, the long-dormant group comprising Duane Denison of The Jesus Lizard, Mike Patton and Trevor Dunn of Mr Bungle, and Helmet/Battles’ John Stanier, mark their grand return, following an eight-year gap from their previous release, with new single “Business Casual”; signalling their greatly-anticipated forthcoming album, Tonic Immobility.

The foundation of “Business Casual” is laid by drumming powerhouse Stanier; while also propulsive and dynamic, emboldening the ominous, rumbling ructions of the bass and thick, blanketing guitar chords. Astride the sardonic, seething vocals, this projects the track’s incisive commentary on “a mocking look at the life of work in America,”, Denison says.

Although such reflections, and those of the horrors of the pandemic, arise upon Tonic Immobility, “it’s also an escape from the realities of the world. We’re not wallowing in negativity or getting political. For me, rock has always been an alternate reality to everything else.”

Released on Ipecac Recordings March 26th, the new album’s twelve tracks were co-produced by the band themselves and Paul Allen.

Listen below to the new single, or pre-order Tonic Immobility here; it’s available on digital, CD digipak, and 180-gram LP in textured gatefold packaging.

Vinyl variants include standard black, coke bottle clear (indie retail exclusive – 5,000 available), opaque metallic silver (Ipecac webstore exclusive – 2,000 available), and crystal clear (Newbury Comics exclusive – 1,000 available).
