It is quite stunning to realise that ‘Rewind’ is the debut single of Allegra Neve given its maturity and stature and the fact she is still in her teens. It is a track filled with an ethereal grace: haunting and layered with wisps of sound that float and circulate through the head. Steeped in a melancholy phosphorescence, Neave voice is celestial and delicate as it soars through the sonic pulse of the instrumentation.
The lyrics deal with anxiety – a state of vulnerability that bleeds into every note. Neve says of the track:
This single is about crippling social anxiety that can control what I do and when I do it.
For me, it’s like the feeling everyone’s eyes are watching and the spiraling out of control feeling I face when walking around alone in a crowd. Like time runs backwards and my thoughts are numb. Trying to look confident but melting on the inside.
Citing Lana Del Rey, Cage The Elephant, Radiohead and The Pixies as impressive influences, there is a heart-breaking beauty in the expression. This track augers great things ahead for Neve:
