Calexico and Iron & Wine – re-united

When Calexico and Iron and Wine collaborated on the 2005 In the Reins EP, it felt a very natural fit, and it seemed inevitable that future collaborations would happen, the only real surprise is that it has taken so long for a full length album.

But now a follow up is announced – we’ve already heard Father Mountain, and now the new album is preceded by the track “Midnight Sun” –

Combining the desert music of Calexico with the folk tales of Iron and Wine gives a slow-burning folk rock epic steeped in magical realism, where we meet the king of birds, and a woman with a guillotine smile, amongst other strangeness.

The album Years to Burn is out on June 14th.

And there’s a European tour as well, including festival appearances (and a slot at Cambridge) – the dates are –
