Brighton solo artist ELLiS·D (real name Ellis Dickson) shares ghoulish new single ‘Humdrum’ via Crafting Room Recordings. All parts were written and recorded by Dickson himself at Hackney Road Studios with producer Shuta Shinoda (Hot Chip, Jenny Beth)

“I wrote the song in a bit of a frenzy one afternoon whilst I was messing around on a kit with a beat that I’d been stuck on what to do with for ages. I had been trying to visualise melodies that were far too complicated in my head, so I decided to just stick on one chord and let the drums do the work, and from there it just came in a flash. Lyrically, it touches on attempting to stay informed about issues but inevitably ingesting endless streams of sensationalism through the media, and how that punctures through what little tranquillity can be found in everyday life.”

Jaring, and jangly with flying vocal acrobats and a straight laced backing line, the track sounds like nothing else out there and is absolutely brilliant. With a voice like a young David Byrne, Dickson is buzzing with energy that is barely contained within the 3 minutes and 40 seconds of captivating paranoia-induced breakdown that has been captured on tape. one spin and straight away you want to listen to everything else with the ELLiS.D mark. More please.
