Melbourne-based artist, Suzi Yaghmoor (known professionally as just Suzi) has released a new track, ‘Everyone I’ve Met Hates Me’ the song is accompanied by a video, directed by Suzi who worked on it with Ben Schoonderbeek

‘Everyone I’ve Met Hates Me’ is a follow up to Suzi’s previous release, the single ‘Amelia’, which told of how she was bullied at high school. Suzi’s forthright lyrics addressed her bully directly and implored her to look inwards and ask ‘Is this who I want to be?’. The authenticity and vulnerability that were expressed in ‘Amelia’ led to Suzi gaining over 25,000 TikTok followers as well as attracting attention from Triple J and emerging artists station, Unearthed – where she was picked up as a featured artist.

Building on the honesty that she expressed in ‘Amelia’ Suzi has explained that ‘Everyone I’ve Met Hates Me’ is about her battle with anxiety, which is beautifully expressed in the video for the song too.

“I wrote this song about my experiences with anxiety, which is especially not fun in social settings. I always find myself searching rooms for a place to hide or find comfort. Things always feel like they’re moving so quickly and I can’t keep up. A lot of that time I end up on a couch or a chair in the corner of the room. That’s where the inspiration for this clip came from. I wanted to take this couch to a bunch of different places where couches aren’t necessarily found as a representation of that comfort and to visually display my active effort to blend in with the furniture wherever possible.”

The track starts off with a plaintive acoustic guitar but soon evolves, into a fully-fledged rock anthem with the addition of some heavy-riffing guitars and furious drumming. It’s a hopeful and honest account of a debilitating condition that is delivered in an upbeat and inspirational way. Suzi is making a real name for herself because of her ability to deal with topical issues in a forthright, yet optimistic way.

“It is absolutely impossible for everyone you have ever met to hate you – but dear lord does it feel that way sometimes.”
