Track: Final Glimpse of The Stamps’ Debut Album Lands With ‘Holy Verse’

Naarm-via-Walyalup trio the stamps have dropped ‘Holy Verse’, the final single ahead of their long-awaited debut album In All The Ways I Am, out on 8 August.

Softly devastating and rhythmically laced with lullaby-like sway, ‘Holy Verse’ is a gentle but emotionally rich meditation on identity, family, and cultural duality. Written in 6/8 time, the track leans into sweet, suspended harmonies and delicate instrumentation, capturing the confusion of being barely 20 but already feeling like time is slipping. Vocalist Sofia Hourani draws on her Lebanese and Italian heritage, reflecting on how traditions can shape — and sometimes constrain — the way we see ourselves.

‘Holy Verse’ is a quietly powerful track — tender, reflective, and full of emotional clarity. The accompanying video leans into nostalgia with soft-focus warmth, perfectly mirroring the song’s themes. There’s a remarkable sense of insight here — the kind that captures the strange, aching threshold between youth and adulthood with a sensitivity far beyond the years it describes.

“I wrote this song on my 20th birthday. I’m a naturally nostalgic and sentimental person, so entering my twenties felt deeply symbolic—like crossing a threshold into adulthood. It’s the only song I’ve written that’s made people laugh and cry while listening. Some of the lyrics are a little dramatic—“my body’s old, collecting dust / some of my joints are beginning to rust”—and even though it sounds funny coming from a 20-year-old, those feelings were real at the time, however fleeting. I laugh a little at how dramatic it was, but also hold a lot of compassion for that version of myself. By the end, everything drops out except for the guitar. I wanted it to feel like a bit of a lullaby, putting my childhood to rest.” – Sofia Hourani

It’s a quietly powerful release from a band who’ve already made a name with shimmering, emotionally intelligent indie-pop. Previous singles ‘Jamie’s Song’, ‘Meryl Streep’, and ‘Slow Burn’ earned praise from triple j, Rolling Stone, Atwood Magazine and Slowdive themselves (after covering ‘Alison’). With Michael Brauer (Coldplay, Florence + The Machine) on mix duties, their debut LP is shaping up to be a striking portrait of youth, yearning, and shared history.

To mark the album’s arrival, the stamps will tour the East Coast and Boorloo/Perth across August and September, following support slots with Jack Botts and Day We Ran. Details via Community Music.
