Yellowcard are back, the alt-rock heroes who once defined a generation of emo-adjacent MTV hits have announced their first full-length album in nearly a decade. Better Days lands October 10 and is ushered in with two fresh cuts: the urgent, heart-on-sleeve title track ‘Better Days’ and the brooding companion ‘honestly i.’
Far from a nostalgia grab, Better Days sounds like a band reclaiming their story. Produced and executive produced by blink-182’s Travis Barker — who also plays drums across the entire record — the album is a defiant, clear-eyed return for the Florida outfit. And if the lead single is anything to go by, Yellowcard haven’t just returned; they’ve levelled up.
‘Better Days’ is an unflinching meditation on perspective and healing, capturing the band’s signature mix of soaring melodies and emo introspection, but with the clarity and conviction of grown men who’ve been through it all and made it out with their friendship intact.
The track arrives with a playful music video directed by Jordan Phoenix, in which the band don wigs, costumes and vintage charisma as they reimagine themselves as iconic 80s movie characters, performing in a dusty VHS rental store. It’s a nod to the past — not a retreat, but a celebration.
With Barker in their corner, a renewed sense of purpose, and a fanbase ready to scream along once again, Yellowcard are sounding like a band who mean every note — maybe more now than ever before.
