Track: HANYA – ‘Lydia’: Rising Brighton shoegazers bring the power and the punch – they’ve announced an autumn tour, too

BRIGHTON shoegazing five-piece HANYA, whose lovely Sea Shoes EP – an eye-poppingly limited cassette release for hometown label Austerity we fell for here – have dropped a new single, the rousing dreampop of “Lydia”. Take a listen below.

It’s a cleanly dreamy anthem, made of punchy guitar shimmer and Heather Sheret’s trademark, breathy vocals. It’s a song that demands evening heat and big smiles.

Heather says: “‘Lydia’ started as a sweet acoustic number but kept getting bigger the more we played it. I think that’s the nature of things right now: big gestures only.

“This past year has involved a lot of contemplation, and so ‘Lydia’ was written about a chance to dwell on our memories and see people, situations and relationships in new light as time progresses. The reminder that rights and wrongs are ever-evolving, perspectives shift and over time you shape your own memories.”

The band have also announced an autumn tour, so we’ll be able to delight in them live as well, everything crossed; the dates are as follows.

Wednesday, October 27th, Leicester, Soundhouse;

Thursday, October 28th, Leeds, Headrow House;

Friday, October 29th, Sheffield, Record Junkee;

Saturday, October 30th, Chester, The Live Rooms;

Monday, November 1st, Glasgow, Hug & Pint;

Tuesday, November 2nd, Birkenhead, Future Yard;

Wednesday, November 3rd, Newcastle, Bobiks;

Thursday, November 4th, Manchester, The Castle Hotel;

Friday, November 5th, Milton Keynes, The Craufurd Arms;

Tuesday, November 9th, London Brixton, The Windmill;

Wednesday, November 10th, Brighton, The Hope & Ruin;

Thursday, November 11th, Portsmouth, The Edge of the Wedge;

Friday, November 12th, Swindon, The Victoria;

Tuesday, November 16th, Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach;

Wednesday, November 17th, Bristol, Crofter’s Rights;

Thursday, November 18th, Birmingham, Dead Wax, and
