It was way back in June 2017 that our attention was grabbed by Brisbane songwriter Hatchie with her debut single ‘Try’, having just attracted a management deal and on the cusp of a global expansion. Now, only eight months later, Hatchie has been signed by highly respected Heavenly Recordings for UK/Europe and Double Double Whammy/Polyvinyl for North America and she is playing at SXSW. Not bad, but that’s not all.

In what must be considered the ultimate achievement for any musician in the indie pop/shoegaze zone, she has released a track ‘Sure’ which has been given the remix treatment by the legendary Robyn Guthrie from Cocteau Twins.

The remix adds a glorious sheen to what was already a gorgeous song:

There is Linger-esque melancholia and that distinctive Guthrie shimmer that makes this so special – think heavenly melodies and that jingle-jangle rickenbacker guitar sound. “Sure” is available now through Heavenly Recordings.

Hatchie is the solo work of Brisbane’s Harriette Pilbeam, with a track record in another excellent Brisbane band Babaganouj. She says “I feel like I’m only just beginning to really assert myself in the world and the Hatchie project has forced me to reassess and make so many positive changes. When I look back on this period of time, I think I’ll see Hatchie as a huge evolutionary force in my life.”. It is certainly a very welcome force.
