Track: Irish Risers Blue Slate return with stirring new single ‘Melody in Melancholy’

Kildare, Ireland based alt-rockers Blue Slate release their sprawling new single ‘Melody in Melancholy’.

A track that fizzes with raw intensity and emotional weight, ‘Melody In Melancholy’ bursts to life with tightly strummed, gritty guitar tones that radiate a fierce energy. As the raspy vocals cut in, more nuanced atmospheric and emotive undertones begin to bubble to the surface.

Maintaining momentum through its indie-infused chorus and second verse, the track shifts into a dreamy, atmospheric middle eight, offering a striking contrast to the high-octane edge of the more raucous moments.

It closes on an expressive, euphoric final instrumental, with jagged guitar tones delivering a last, searing flourish. Packing a varied and thoughtfully constructed soundscape into just two and a half minutes, the track balances punk-fueled energy with an emotive undercurrent shaped by shoegaze and grunge influences – ultimately showcasing the band’s flair for blending genres with elegance and purpose.

Speaking about the single, the band shares:

“Melody in Melancholy was the first song we went into record after the release of ‘This is how I sleep at Night’, our debut EP , and we had a short time away from the studio to sit with the release . After some time away from recording to plan the release of the EP , it felt right to get back in and begin preparing the next release .

The song itself is a reflection on how we can sell ourselves to different things , whether that be to people or substance . The lyrics are based around questioning the reason we always go back to someone or something that has harmed us in one way or another , attempting to figure out if it’s due to hatred or due to comfort.”
