It seems an age since we last had music from Jamie XX as a solo entity. In fact its 5 years or thereabout since his Brit and Grammy nominated album ‘In colour’, but now he’s back with a new release ‘Idontknow’.
In fact he’s been busy of late, hosting parties, and a recent collaboration with Headie One and Fred again.. on Smoke from their acclaimed GANG mixtape. In actual fact, he debuted the track as far back as autumn last year but kept quiet about the fact it was his work, letting it gain a life of its own on the dance floors of the world.
Finally revealing it to the world, Idontknow i available to stream right now and gets a 12” release via the ever brilliant Young Turks imprint on May 1st.
The track is this bubbling eastern influenced house track, with tribal drums, buzzing basslines, that change and evolve with skill and imagination as he plays with the stereo as well for headphone listeners while never once losing its dancefloor credentials. What he’s done is move enough ideas and material for a mixtape into just under five and a half minutes. You know why? Because he can.
