Track: ‘Stay Gold’ – Restless Leg unveil another sprightly powered pop single and announce album and tour.

The new single ‘Stay Gold’ from Restless Leg is as hyperactive as their name – a track that skips and hops with a sprightly bounce, a sonic game of rough and tumble that spills out of the speakers and shimmers and shakes.

Horns grace the edges and a low-fi rumble is emitted with a Jonathan Richman delivery, a Velvet Underground rawness and a sixties splash augmented by delightfully expressed lyrics:

The precious metal set
Copper, silver and the rest are alright
But if I’m pressed
I cannot think
of a single quality that outshines
oh you are blessed

Singer Ben Chanie says of the track:

This is about, perhaps the misplaced hope, that the qualities of a place or person or some other thing that you love, won’t change. I wrote this song for my daughter. She is hilariously and brutally blunt in her opinions about, well, most things really. I hope she stays that way!

“It’s a fun song to play. The ‘Hey here we come’ is in homage to similar opening lines to many pop songs before this one. But a couple that come to mind are the theme song from the 60s TV show The Monkees and the Hoodoo Gurus’ song ‘The Right Time’ off their 1996 album Crank.

It’s blood stirring stuff and embodies the band’s deliciously rampant sounds:

Out through the new and delightfully named Sinister Porpoise Records, the single comes with a reflective jazzy instrumental that has a middle eastern flavour to its tumbling chords. Chamie says of the track:

At the time I was addicted to true crime podcasts, so I borrowed the title of ‘Blood On The Vines’ from that of a podcast episode about a murder in the wine-making region of Griffith, New South Wales. But in my mind, it’s a soundtrack to a L.A. noir film and could easily be about a murder in the Napa Valley, California.

‘Stay Gold’ is out now and available to stream and download here. It comes ahead of the band’s new album ‘Dance Around My Head’ (available to pre-order here) and a massive tour just announced. Blessed are they that they have included Hobart. Details and tickets below.
