It seems Bakers Eddy just don’t have an off button. Right when you think they might take a little time off having just surmounted a 25-date headline tour as well as lapping up the country supporting WAAX, Stand Atlantic and Beddy Rays respectively, which all ingeniously came off the back of their debut album ‘Love Boredom Bicycles’ from earlier in the year, they have once again kicked the door down and invaded our earholes again with their surprise double A-side ‘Motor Racing’ / ‘Easy Steeze’, and – would you believe it – more headline shows throughout November and December.

Accompanied by a highly saturated and hypnotically colour graded video, ‘Motor Racing’ offers all the trustee components of a Bakers track – gritty punk rock with drops of charisma and character throughout, with a catchy chorus melody above a striking chord progression. The band explain:

It’s about all the overwhelming feelings you get when you first fall in love with someone, but also dealing with the baggage from previous relationships. I’m a bit of a nerd for F1 and was super engaged in that shit at the time so I must have “subconsciously” slipped in a few racing references here and there.

‘East Steeze’ is a mischievous belated easter egg for longtime Bakers fans who may or may not have been catching their devilish live shows circa 2018. With light-hearted wit and commanding energy, this track feels like a love letter to influences such as Green Day and Arctic Monkeys, giving the band that authentic edge and portrayal.

We’ve been playing a song we had called ‘Pats House’ in our set since we moved to Australia, and we recorded it for an unreleased EP about 3 years ago. It didn’t really feel like the song we wrote originally so we kind of put it to one side. Some fans actually requested it not too long ago, so we started playing it again and decided to re-record it.

Bakers Eddy will be touring off the back of these releases with headline shows scheduled in Meanjin/Brisbane, Warrang/Sydney and Boorloo/Perth, before capping it all off in their beloved homebase Naarm/Melbourne. This includes a quick stop in Nipaluna/Hobart where they’ll be opening for Tassie’s cherished Luca Brasi.

You can stream and watch ‘Motor Racing’ / ‘Easy Steeze’ here.
