With news out already of the much anticipated new album ‘Scatterbrain’ from New Zealand giants The Chills (due out on 14 May 2021 out through Fire Records and Flying Nun Records), the band has set up their stall and displayed another valuable ware from the collection – the track ‘Destiny’.

You know what to expect from this band and it is no surprise that ‘Destiny’ is a sweet, melodic and jangling track filled with the magic that only the enigmatic Martin Phillipps can muster. The lyrics are reflective and personal about the need for connections – destiny and empathy, I can’t face this on my own – and imbued with a melancholic air. The hallmark celestial jangle is there as are the choruses that are larger than the sun and just as bright.

Accompanying the track, the ‘Destiny’ live music video captures an unseen recent performance at the Festival Of Lights in New Plymouth, New Zealand just a few weeks ago.

Filmed by the Likuid Media and recorded by Michael Holland this also a preview to a special on demand concert stream ‘Worlds Within Worlds – The Chills Live From New Zealand’ that showcases on 31st March as part of Fire Records’ Baptism Of Fire video series with proceeds going towards the band’s international touring in 2022. You can get tickets here.
