Thundercat has released a new track, ‘Fair Chance’, taken from his forthcoming album ‘It is what it is’, out on Brainfeeder on April 3rd. It’s produced by Sounwave (Kendrick Lamar / TDE) and features Ty Dolla $ign and Lil B.
“This song is about Mac… when he passed it shook the ground for the artist community,” says Thundercat. “Ty’s a strong dude and when he heard the song he knew exactly what it should be. I was there when he recorded it. We talked about what it was, and he did what he felt was right to it, and I love what he did”.
It’s laid back funk, speckled with vinyl cracks and permeated with this gooey bass line. Over the top, it’s soulful and slightly (given the circumstances of its writing) melancholy. It pulls at your heartstrings and allows you to fall in love with it at the same time.
