Video and News: Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile, Over Everything

This must be the most perfect laconic, low-fi alt.country indie music match in history – Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile are releasing an album together entitled “Lotta Sea Lice”, due out on 13 October 2017.

First release off the album is the song “Over Everything” and it is everything you would expect from these two individuals with their shared love of the lyrically self-deprecating story-telling and easy, shimmering guitar style. The video is discombobulating to say the least – the black and white ethos and the expansive scenery with both singers lost and distant figures armed with their guitars and amps is undercut by the fact that each are miming to the other’s part:

It’s a glistening mesmerising song and it augurs well for the album and what must be one of the most fascinating collaborations ever. They are joined on the album by musicians such as Mick Thomas and Jim White of the Dirty Three, Stella Mozgawa from Warpaint and Mick Harvey. Meanwhile a US tour in October/November has already sold out.
