You only have to listen to the early tracks from York based indie-pop band Maven Fiction to hear their great potential. Their patriotic anthem ‘This Is My England’  has a brilliantly lo-fi video of the fresh faced duo walking around London, complete with more red busses than you can shake a stick at. Add to that the killer beat on the chorus over an eighties synth and you’ve got one great debut. But things didn’t really work out like that. Things got in the way and the project never went any further. Until now.

The band is the brainchild of former school buddies Aaron Ward (vocals/guitar) and Joe Mitchell (piano/synths). With full-time education behind them, they are gaining momentum again and this time they mean business. They have gone from a duo to a four-piece with the addition of bassist Tom Cutforth and drummer Jon Dawes. Their new song ‘Can I keep you?’ is up on their YouTube channel now and features  footage from a recent live acoustic session. It has a more organic sound, showcasing a whole new side to their talents. The band have been in the studio recording new tracks, so hopefully they will drop soon. In the meantime, check out their existing videos or their social media. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of these boys in the future.
