California trio Dommengang are set to release their new album, No Keys, on May 17th through Thrill Jockey and have unleashed a pulsating new single ahead of its release.

“Wild Wash” certainly demonstrates the band’s penchant for blues infused psych-rock as Dan “Sig” Wilson’s guitar work howls throughout, all the while the band embark on a more motorik drumming style with the single. It’s got those desert/stoner rock elements that made Queens Of The Stone Age such a seminal act within the music scene – and come the minute mark, the group do manage to have your head nodding along in unison.

No Keys was recorded with Tim Green, whose credits include Joanna Newsom, Golden Void and Howlin’ Rain, and is expected to be “a lean, dark-edged record coloured by loss”, in contrast to their previous album Love Jail, which at times felt more akin to the blues movement than the psych movement.

If “Wild Wash” is a sign of things to come from No Keys, it certainly looks to be crossing into a number of different musical territories. With that prospect in mind, then it warrants following Dommengang on Spotify. I’ll go first.

No Keys is available for pre-order now.

I write words that sometimes make sense and other times don't. But perhaps in either case that will evoke some form of emotion about what I am writing. Or maybe not.
