Legendary frontman Chris Masuak of Radio Birdman fame rocked Woy Woy for the start of his east coast tour earlier this month. His first tour of Australia in 6 years, headlining shows across the ACT, NSW, VIC and QLD with his Australian band Dog Soldier comprising Tony Bambach on bass (Lime Spiders) and Stu Wilson on drums (The New Christs), the well respected Link and Pin was filled with excited music fans for a brilliant Sunday afternoon.

Supported by Central Coast locals The Silver Dragons, the afternoon was one for the inner west music fan in us all. Now calling the seaside location home, The Silver Dragons includes Grahame ‘Hoodie’ Hood of The Johnnys and Michelle Kerr of Spurs for Jesus as well as Anton Hughes on vocals and guitar and Dwayne Yule on guitar. Their high energy set was a more than ample warm up to the main act. Renditions of Elvis and Lucinda Williams tunes performed with enthusiasm and talent made me very curious to look out for the next time these guys take to the stage.

To anyone that wasn’t already familiar with Chris’ back catalogue of not only seminal punk rock band Radio Birdman but also The Screaming Tribesman, New Christs and The Hitmen, there wasn’t any doubt that there was someone very special about to delight our ears. Masuak’s understated but powerful showmanship was ably supported by his band and they wowed punters with 2 generous sets filled with hits from across his varied back catalogue and more. The Link and Pin was the perfect venue to host this Australian Rock and Roll Hall of Famer – whatever it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in heart with the owners ever supportive of live acts both local and overseas and across genres.

Chris Masuak and Dog Soldier continue their tour with shows scheduled for

2 -Stag and Hunter, Newcastle+ Joeys Coop + East Coast Low Tickets
3 – Federal Hotel, Bellingen + Nikki Websters
4 – Vinnies, Gold Coast + The Square Tugs + Mick Medew & Ursula
Tickets
