Established in 2014, Twisterella is an award-winning multi-venue, metropolitan music festival that takes place in the heart of Middlesbrough. Centred around Teesside University, Twisterella has become a vital part of the northeast’s thriving music scene and in 2019 received an AIF Independent Festival Award for its consistently forward-thinking approach to showcasing the most exciting emerging talent on local, regional, national and international levels.

Now in its 9th year, Twisterella has previously played host to established acts such as Sam Fender, Pip Blom, Dream Wife, Benefits, Clean Cut Kid and The Howl & The Hum, whilst the festival’s co-promoters have a proven track record bringing emerging talent to the region having promoted shows for the likes of The 1975, Wolf Alice, Alt-J, Daughter and many more as they were breaking.

Artists Announced Today:
Prima Queen, Shelf Lives, Melin Melyn, Venus Grrrls, Alien Chicks, Dilettante, Sage Todz, Phil Madeley, SUDS, Spielmann, Hang Linton, Slix, Chef The Rapper, Dressed Like Wolves, Irked, Gone Tomorrow.

Andy Carr, co-promotor Twisterella:

“The current grassroots music ecosystem in Middlesbrough isn’t great at the moment following the closure of many of the town’s key venues, so we feel that this year’s festival is the most important Twisterella to date. Prima Queen are one of our favourite new bands, so being able to have them as one of our headliners for Twisterella 2023 is huge.”

Henry Carden, co-promotor Twisterella:

“Shelf Lives and Melin Melyn were two of my highlights from this year’s The Great Escape, so I’m absolutely buzzing that we’re bringing them to Middlesbrough for this year’s Twisterella. They’re the kind of bands where people will be talking about their sets for years to come! So good.”
