On a balmy evening in Hobart, A Swayze & The Ghosts took to the stage at Altar Bar as the final stop on a short east coast tour on the back of the release of latest single, Stay Right.
With additions to the lineup, and a slight shift in direction with their sound, it was with some trepidation that I awaited the band coming onto stage, having not seen them perform live since their days as a four piece band.
However, my questions and fears were quickly blown away as the band ripped into opener, Connect To Consume. The band then played through their most loved songs from across their catalogue (including my personal favourite, Reciprocation) thrilling a highly devoted set of fans who sang along with every word. Their recent singles sit in extremely well with the bands earlier material, and make for a fantastic live set.
Lead singer and charismatic frontman, Andrew Swayze has lost none of the swagger that has been trademark across the band’s near 10 year career, a fact that was not lost on the singer as he acknowledged the support and love the band has had in their home state across that time.
A Swayze & The Ghosts were ably supported by both Funeral Jeans and Isle Two. Funeral Jeans opened proceedings with their angular, guitar-based post-punk whilst Isle Two made a super polished debut with their energetic indie pop, a fact once again acknowledged by Andrew Swayze during their set.
