Track: Thundercat – Bus in these streets

Hot on the heels of winning his first grammy for his contribution to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ album, Thundercat has released a new single via Flying Lotus’ brilliant Brainfeeder imprint. It’s his first new music since 2015’s ‘The Beyond… Where the Giants Roam’, and features Thundercat himself on vocals and bass, joined by Louis Cole (keyboards, drums, programming); and Steve Ellison aka Flying Lotus (programming, editing). In addition to that, the artwork is by Thundercat’s friend Bootymath.

Bus in these Streets is described as being ‘a comedic ode to our dependance on technology’ but its also heavy on the street cool, whiffing of 80’s funk alongside an instantly lovable melody, with Thundercat’s winding bass providing melodies of its own as his attractive falsetto sits on top with this impish impeccable soul.

If you’re in the Los Angeles region (we wish) then check out Thundercat live as he joins Flying Lotus, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Shabazz Palaces and The Gaslamp Killer at the upcoming Brainfeeder Showcase at the Hollywood Bowl on 17th September 2016. Happily for us on this side of the pond, he also plays in London at the OnBlackheath Festival on 10th September.
