World-renowned composer, producer, and rock icon YOSHIKI has unveiled his latest musical project, the vocal group 美麗-Bi-ray-, in a bold step aimed at shaping a new era for Japanese pop music. The four-member ensemble, comprised of vocalists Emi, Hinata, Cocomi, and Michelle, made a striking debut on the world stage by performing the U.S. national anthem at Dodgers Stadium, setting the tone for what promises to be a global career.
The group’s debut single, ‘Butterfly’, is a slow-burning pop ballad that blends intricate vocal harmonies with a cinematic crescendo. Opening with a minimal, stripped-back arrangement, the track evolves into a rich, textured soundscape that showcases the emotional range and individuality of each member. Rooted in a delicate yet powerful structure, ‘Butterfly’ offers a fresh and authentic take on modern J-pop, reflecting both vulnerability and strength.
The single is released globally via Melodee, YOSHIKI’s newly launched record label, and is distributed through Virgin Music Group. Accompanying the release is a music video filmed in Los Angeles, marking the group’s official visual debut. The video underscores the sonic depth and artistic ambition of 美麗-Bi-ray-, highlighting not only their vocal strength but also their visual and cinematic appeal.
‘Butterfly’ also features as the official soundtrack for the upcoming Hollywood film Bride Hard, starring Rebel Wilson. Its inclusion in the film’s soundtrack signals 美麗-Bi-ray-’s intention to merge J-pop with international pop culture and reach a broad, global audience.
Speaking on the formation of the group and the impact of their debut, producer YOSHIKI said, “Each of their voices is one of a kind, they are vocalists who can take on the world.”
