In the realm of neo-soul, a new luminary is set to shine. Nia, a vocalist, songwriter, and cellist hailing from Bulgaria, is making waves with the release of her debut single, ‘111’, out today. With a debut EP titled ‘Freefall’ scheduled for release on April 19th, Nia’s emergence promises a fresh breeze of soulful melodies and vibrant musicality.

For Nia, the journey to starting her solo career has been paved with notable collaborations and experiences. Renowned for her contributions to the works of global icons like Burna Boy, Emily Sandé, and Jamala, as well as several esteemed Dutch artists, Nia has traversed the globe, lending her talents to a diverse array of musical endeavours. Now, with ‘111’, she steps confidently into the spotlight, ready to captivate audiences with her unique blend of neo-soul and R&B.

‘111’ serves as a captivating introduction to Nia’s sonic universe. Opening with an ethereal fusion of piano and strings, the track gradually builds into a mesmerizing soundscape, characterized by tight percussion and bass, all anchored by Nia’s velvety vocals. It’s a journey through melancholy and comfort, underscored by an undeniable momentum that propels the listener forward.

The song’s composition reflects Nia’s multifaceted musical influences, drawing comparisons to the acclaimed works of Robert Glasper’s Black Radio series. Yet, ‘111’ possesses a distinct identity, marked by Nia’s introspective lyricism and soul-stirring delivery. It’s a testament to her ability to craft narratives that resonate deeply with listeners, offering solace and inspiration in equal measure.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind ‘111’, Nia shares, “After graduating, I was going through a rough period, trying to figure out my personal and career paths. Writing ‘111’ was a message to myself, to keep going and focus on what’s coming rather than being guilt-trapped in the past. I wanted to illustrate the raw ups and downs of the journey, leading up to a free mind.”

With ‘111’ serving as a tantalising glimpse into her artistic vision, Nia is poised to make a significant impact with her upcoming EP, ‘Freefall’.
