News: Mr Scruff kicks off DJ Kicks’ 25th anniversary (plus club dates)

DJ Kicks has been Berlin label K7!’s long-enduring (and endearing) compilation of guest mixes spanning back to its inaugural offering back in 1995. On that occasion, Belgian producer C.J Bolland brought together a collection of artists from a soon-to-peak electronica genre.

Throughout the 25 years since that release, DJ Kicks has had curators across the board, from Nightmares on Wax, Massive Attack’s Daddy G and Four Tet to contemporary producers Mount Kimbie, Forest Swords and Dam-Funk.

They also had Stereo MC’s, just for trivia’s sakes.

Someone who has been around almost as long as the compilation itself finally gets to curate their mix this year, as the “funky timelord”, as K7 regard him, Mr Scruff, releases his DJ Kicks on March 27th.

Promising to bring together some of the best analogue and digital musicians from across the world, Mr Scruff’s mix includes Zongamin, Equiknoxx, Tony Allen alongside staples of the DJ’s set – Dobie and Erorrsmith.

Pre-order “Mr Scruff: DJ Kicks” on CD, vinyl and digitally.

Mr Scruff will be touring throughout this month through to November, picking up performances as varied as an in-store at Manchester’s Picadilly Records and festivals slots across Europe.

I write words that sometimes make sense and other times don't. But perhaps in either case that will evoke some form of emotion about what I am writing. Or maybe not.
