More than two decades since the release of their debut album Peep, Finnish rock band The Rasmus are preparing to tour Australia for the first time in their career. Despite a global fanbase and a catalogue spanning eleven studio albums, the group have never previously performed on Australian soil.

Coinciding with the tour announcement, The Rasmus have released a new single, “Love Is A Bitch”, taken from their upcoming album Weirdo, due out 12 September via Better Noise Music. Known for blending heavy guitars with electronic elements and melodic pop sensibilities, the band’s latest track continues in that tradition.

Formed in Helsinki in 1994 while still in school, The Rasmus first rose to prominence in Finland when Peep went Gold. They achieved international recognition with their 2003 major label debut, earning six Platinum and eight Gold certifications over the years. Their upcoming album Weirdo will mark a new chapter for the band—and their long-awaited visit to Australia marks another milestone in a career defined by steady evolution.

Much of Weirdo was written by frontman Lauri Ylönen in collaboration with longtime Rasmus contributor Desmond Child—whose credits include Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, and Aerosmith—and producer Marti Fredriksen (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Veil Brides). The initial writing sessions took place in Folegandros, Greece, where Ylönen and Child began developing material Ylönen had brought with him.

Full-band demos followed in Finland in mid-2023, with Fredriksen and Child overseeing production. Final recordings were completed at Sienna Studios in Nashville, where the band tracked the album as a unit. Mixing duties were divided across several studios and producers: Fredriksen in Nashville (with Evan Fredriksen assisting), Chris Baseford in Vancouver, Claudius Mittendorfer in London, and Joseph McQueen in Los Angeles.

McQueen also contributed additional production to tracks such as “Creatures of Chaos” and “Break These Chains,” lending them a heavier edge. Ylönen took a more hands-on role with “Rest in Pieces”, co-producing the track alongside Finnish producer Alex Mattson.
