Broken Forest is the project of Luise London, who blends folk with elements of pop and trip-hop. We’re delighted to bring you the premiere of the track Spirit of The Meadows right here on Backseat Mafia this morning, taken from her Wild At Heart EP, due out on the 29th July.
Of the song Luise told us, “I spent a week writing in the wilderness at the Knoydart Songwriting Retreat, Scotland in 2021 and was fascinated by the little skylarks flying and singing across Scotland’s meadows, jumping up out of nowhere as you are passing by”.
Her passion for the natural world is evident in the track, built on an accordian drone, as she lays her strong, affecting vocals over the top. There’s no outside influence here, save for the natural world (the skylark appears within the track)and the folk tradition, and it’s frankly beautiful, with its lilting yet melancholy melodies decorated with a healthy portion of vocal harmonies.
