Sister9 Recordings is pleased to announce the split EP from Kill Your Boyfriend and Neu Oscuro, scheduled for release 9 May. The split is the first the label have offered and it really is something special. BSM is delighted to bring you the premiere of two tracks from the EP, one from each band. You can pre-order here.

Kill Your Boyfriend’s half is called Disco Kills, and was created in 2024 with the idea of experimenting with new sound horizons more suited to the dancefloor than the rock’n’roll of the last album. So drum machines and analogue synths were overused. The band explain ‘Obsessions is a post-punk dance track that prompts contemplation on the overwhelming influx of stimuli from modern consumerist society, promoting an unhealthy dependency that disconnects individuals from their genuine needs. This cycle of constant consumption ultimately reduces life to a repetitive loop of birth, consumption, and death. The accompanying video, directed by Alice Lorenzon, emphasizes the superficiality and lack of fulfilment this lifestyle brings.

Born out of friendship forged in the dank Manchester underground music scene, Neu Oscuro have been cloaked in mystery since the release of their much-praised 2022 debut single, ‘Ragazza’. With a range of continental influences, psych styles and dark post-punk vibes evident, the band’s sound is largely built upon the murkier side of frontman Rhys Bloodjoy’s solo work. Together, with Astral Elevator and the much sought after David Sheffield on percussive duties, the now trio reveal a dangerous and bare-bones side to Bloodjoy’s already intense style of music—still utilising loops, but with the addition of primitive live drums and deep synth basslines. Their ‘Desolation EP’, presents a collection of tracks which exude their energy and pull you deep into their world.
