Former Red Shirt Brigade and Thunderbirds Are Now! Man Scott Robert Allen has returned from a near decade long hiatus with his debut self titled-album, out now on your favourite streaming services. From it, he’s released a new video for for the track ‘Here Comes Our Family’, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today.

Of the process, Scott says “It was a surprising pleasure to be able to find love in music again because I honestly never expected to write music again. After picking up an instrument for the first time after almost a decade things finally got exciting. While everyone is adapting to life in the pandemic differently, and I don’t want to undermine anyone’s hardship if that is their experience, given the opportunity of time I was able to separate my brain from the daily norms and record something that became a solo album.”

The song itself is this delicate slice of prog-pop, full of string lines and this plaintive piano that marks out the cards and scratches it’s own version of the time on the track. Over the top, Allen draws in the listener as he stretches out beneath the melodic and melancholy of the track, and touches you with it.

Of the video, Scott told us “The footage is of my father’s side of the family. It’s 8mm footage shot between ’62 and ’63. The Kennedy footage was from just before he was assassinated I believe, and taken on Davison Ave in Detroit in ’63. Because this was all one reel, I just let it play without edits, and what you see is how it ended up.”
