Essentially the project of Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter/guitarist John Leitera, we’re delighted to premiere the new video for Tuff Sunshine’s track Mask Away right here on Backseat Mafia.
Taken from their album Dig Deeper, Peanut, which dropped last year via Declared Goods, Mask away is essentially stripped down rock and roll, like Jack White doing the Rolling Stones. Driven by this growling guitar riff, and with this trippy psych-blues guitar liberally ladled over the the top, apart from backing vocals, there’s not much else to the track. With Leitera’s gruff, likeable vocal over the top and a damn fine tune though, what more do you need.
The accompanying video, all in black and white, is stitched together from old films and the like, but done so in a way that makes it watchable, albeit a slightly psychedelic experience.
