See: Keinemusik’s ‘Pay To Play’ feat. Bell-Towers explores the concept of the ear worm quite literally – eeep

KEINEMUSIK as a going sonic concern came into being around four years ago, when Berlin electronica producers Adam Port, &Me and Rampa – born Adam Polaszek, André Boadu and Gregor Sütterlin, respectively – came together to bring some crisp electro science to the party.

A debut album, You Are Safe, at the very end of 2017 played about grandly with notions of vocal deep house and more techno elements; since when they’ve been deep cover, re-emerging with a collective name; a new record, Send Return, right on the cusp of a physical release (more on how to buy that below), but an unchanged mission to bring the groove – this time out, with a whole variety of invited vocalists.

They’ve just dropped a standout banger, “Pay To Play” with the vocal talents of Melbourne’s Bell-Towers to the fore and with one of the best dance track videos since Mr Oizo’s “Flat Beat” all those years ago to boot. By turns funny, eye-catching and a little bit eerie, it examines the concept of the earworm maybe a little bit more ickily and eerie than you might expect.

That video was directed by fine art photography quarterly Ordinary Magazine founder Max Siedentopf, and was shot in various Berlin locations such as Schönefeld and Frankfurter Allee, on 16mm.

He says: “In both German and English, a catchy song like this is called an ‘ear worm’, and I wanted to explore this further in the video.

“It revolves around a reptile enthusiast with a pet called Little Dragon. The man breeds his own ear worms. Throughout the song he takes one of the worms and places it into his ear. This is when he gets infected by the song until he slowly turns into a worm himself.”

Yikes. But fun, too.

Keinemusik’s “Pay To Play” feat. Bell Towers is out now on digital streaming platforms; the album, Send Return, is available now to order on 3xLP and will be shipping from January 3rd.
