Track: Marveline is back with a little whimsy slice of tasty pop in ‘Butternose’.

It’s been a couple of years since we heard from Pete Marley (The Nature Strip) and his project Marveline but 2024 sets off with a pop as he releases his whimsical new single ‘Butternose’. Powered pop as always drives Marley’s songwriting and ‘Butternose’ fulfills this mission with a delightful lilting romp and a spark of humour.

There is an element of the Robert Forster side of the The Go-Betweens in the fey delivery and an almost nursery rhyme style melody but the track is another example of Marley’s almost surreal, psychedelic world with the absurdist lyrics:

Let me tell you about Butternose
Wears a smile instead of clothes
So wise and kind
Says I must know my mind

Get your facts from Butternose
He’ll sing you what he knows
In perfect time
Butternose knows all the rhymes

Marley says:

Who or what is Butternose? That’s probably up to you.

A new album is hinted at, and all is well in a world where Pete Marley and Marveline can drop little tasty gems like this for our delectation:

‘Butternose’ is out now and available to download and stream through all the usual place and through the link above.
