Set to unveil her upcoming album ‘Summer of Love‘ on April 12th through Poison City Records and Labelman, Jess Ribeiro, the versatile folk artist hailing from Naarm/Melbourne, is captivating listeners once again with her latest single and accompanying music video, ‘Jump The Gun’. In addition to this exciting release, Ribeiro has also announced a European tour spanning April and May, including stops in Brighton, Manchester, Bristol, and London.

‘Jump The Gun’ delves into the chaotic realm of impulsive decision-making, portraying a mind that acts before considering the consequences. The track itself is a fusion of industrial-rock-pop elements, featuring dynamic percussion by renowned musicians Jim White and Dave Mudie, alongside Ribeiro’s captivating vocals navigating through distorted guitars and elevated synths. The addition of a saxophone solo by Darcy McNulty adds an extra layer of intensity, culminating in a sudden, abrupt halt that mirrors the impulsive nature of the song’s theme.

Reflecting on the collaborative process behind the track, Ribeiro expresses admiration for her fellow musicians, particularly highlighting Darcy McNulty’s saxophone performance and Jim White’s willingness to explore new territories.

Accompanying the release of ‘Jump The Gun’ is a visually captivating video, composed and edited by long-time collaborator Greta Larkins. Utilising snippets of footage captured from Ribeiro’s personal archives, the video offers a glimpse into natural landscapes, hidden messages, and fleeting moments of joy, echoing the thematic essence of the song.

As part of the upcoming album ‘Summer of Love‘, Ribeiro will navigate themes of isolation, loss, and the quest for love against a backdrop of uncertainty and upheaval. Recorded during a period marked by constant change and instability, the album will serve as a testament to Ribeiro’s resilience and introspective lyricism.

The recording process for ‘Summer of Love’ was as diverse and eclectic as its themes, with Ribeiro collaborating with a talented ensemble of musicians in various locations. From recording initial demos at a solar-powered shack to laying down tracks with Nick Huggins on Wautharong Country, the album is a testament to the power of creative collaboration and improvisation.

‘Summer of Love‘ stands as a testament to Ribeiro’s artistic vision and is set to be released next month, on April 12th. As she prepares to embark on her European tour, audiences can anticipate a mesmerising live experience that captures the essence of her latest endeavour.
