Music News : Oneohtrix Point Never Announce New Album ‘Age Of’, Out June 1st

Daniel Lopatin has been on one hell of a creative streak the last 2 1/2 years. First he released the groundbreaking Oneohtrix Point Never record Garden Of Delete, which to my ears was a next level album. That record took everything he’d culminated and built since his debut with Betrayed in the Octagon in 2007 and turned it on its head. It was an alien-sounding pop record that rewrote what an electronic record could be. Then last year Lopatin released the soundtrack to the Safdie brothers film Good Time. It was an engaging album that felt as much a character in the film as the cast and the New York backdrop were.

Not to sit on his laurels, Oneohtrix Point Never is now readying a new album titled Age Of. The 13-track record was recorded between 2016 and 2018, and according to record label Warp:

It’s Daniel Lopatin’s most cohesive and richly composed work to date, weaving a tapestry of disparate musical histories — early music, country and folk balladry, melodic pop, computer music and much, much more — that demonstrate both the complexity and range of the artist’s repertoire. With sounds that are unsettlingly familiar and uniquely his own, “Age Of” guides us through an unclassifiable new world.

The album news also coincides with news of added shows for Lopatin’s art installation MYRIAD. Regarding the installation:

The album announcement also celebrates the addition of a third show for the world premiere of MYRIAD in partnership with Red Bull Music Festival New York at the historic Park Avenue Armory. The date was added to meet overwhelming public demand after the first two shows sold out in 72 hours. Tickets for the 3rd show which takes place at7:00 pm on Thurs 24 May will go on sale tomorrow.  Oneohtrix Point Never has also added an additional MYRIAD show at The Barbican in London on July 7th.

If you clicked on that link, the song playing is title track and album opener “Age Of”. If that track is any indication, Age Of is yet another huge leap forward for Lopatin, OPN, and electronic music.
