News: Baby Condor Soars With Self-Titled Debut EP

Dutch brothers Nolle and Beinte Groen step into the spotlight with Baby Condor, their self-titled debut EP, a six-track exploration of melody, harmony, and analogue warmth. Anchored by the lead single ‘Dreaming of the Day’, the record guides listeners through sunlit highways, coastal roads, and hazy canyon evenings—a reflective journey where memory, longing, and introspection intersect.

After more than 20 years of making music together, the Groen brothers turned inward to create something entirely their own. Written, arranged, performed, and produced largely by themselves in their hand-built Mermaid Studio, the EP blends tradition with experimentation, combining live instrumentation, analogue gear, and careful studio craftsmanship.

Drawing on influences ranging from James Taylor and Paul Simon to Marvin Gaye, Brian Wilson, and Elton John, Baby Condor’s sound crosses genres, mixing pop, folk, orchestral, and cinematic textures. Contemporary echoes of Jonathan Wilson, D’Angelo, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Michael Kiwanuka add further depth to the record’s lush production.

‘Dreaming of the Day’ captures the EP’s emotional core, reflecting on relationships that waver between intensity and routine, while ‘Backcountry Towns’ opens the record with a sunlit, reflective nod to simple human truths. ‘Seventeen’ charts a coming-of-age journey through memory and self-discovery, ‘Lifetime Come & Gone’ meditates on loss with jazzy, string-laden arrangements, and ‘Saw You in a Song’ confronts one-sided friendships with a bluesy, sailor-inspired grit. The EP closes with ‘Silver Stereo’, a celebratory critique of music as art rather than commodity.

“Music must have soul,” says Beinte Groen. “Not just entertainment, but artistic meaning and identity.” For Nolle, Baby Condor is “the culmination of a two-decade search for the perfect record we will never find.” With its rich instrumentation, thoughtful arrangements, and timeless songwriting, the debut EP is a testament to the enduring power of craft, honesty, and analogue warmth.
