Four bands, one city, and a name that still hits like a punchline and a promise. Fokofpolisiekar, Van Coke Kartel, aKing and Die Heuwels Fantasties are reassembling the Bellville universe, reviving VanFokKingTasties for the first time in 14 years.
Set for June 6 at Marks Park Sports Club in Emmarentia, the return isn’t being framed as nostalgia — it’s more like a reawakening. Back in 2009, VanFokKingTasties wasn’t just a tour, it was a collision: 13 musicians from four of South Africa’s most influential bands sharing a stage, swapping roles, bending their own catalogues into something looser, louder and far less predictable.
That spirit carried into their 2012 album, where tracks like ‘Dagdronk’ sat alongside reworked versions of fan favourites, pulling apart familiar songs and stitching them back together in new forms. It wasn’t about reinvention for its own sake — it was about what happens when bands stop guarding their identities and start overlapping them.
Now, more than a decade on, that experiment is back in the open air. A daytime show, running from late morning into evening, built to be as communal as it is chaotic. All-ages, a kids zone, and the promise of more acts still to come — the edges are broader, but the core idea remains intact.
What made VanFokKingTasties work the first time wasn’t just the lineup. It was the unpredictability — the sense that anything could shift, any song could mutate, any boundary between bands could dissolve mid-set.
Four bands. One stage. No clear lines.
