Following his time in cult-Sheffield band Kartica, who disbanded in 2014, Mat Hook is back with his latest solo single, ‘This Feeling’.

Having made his debut with the backing of industry figures John Kennedy (Radio X) and Steve Lamacq (BBC Radio 6 Music), Hook aims to continue his momentum in the indie music scene. The track marks his first studio release of the year and showcases his signature blend of indie guitar pop.

‘This Feeling’ combines indie-tinged melodies with waves of distorted guitars, propelled by a steady backbeat and a Britpop-influenced swagger. The song delivers an energetic yet approachable indie anthem, highlighting Hook’s return to the spotlight after a decade-long hiatus.

Speaking about the track, Hook said, “This is a very feel-good song; it has a Stone Roses vibe to it, and it’s almost dancey. A lot of people constantly talk about the struggles of life, and I’ve been there. But sometimes you wake up and just being alive feels amazing! Or maybe a moment in a day makes you feel that way… This Feeling is about that for me: those amazing moments you get that are life-affirming.”

Mat Hook, an English singer-songwriter, first gained attention as the frontman of Sheffield indie rock band Kartica from 2008 to 2014, earning sold-out gigs, international press coverage, and celebrity endorsements. After a decade away from the limelight, he has returned with new solo material and live performances, supported by his band.

Hook has signed with Sheffield label Forgemaster Records and is scheduled to headline EchoSound Events’ indie festival in Sheffield next year, further cementing his comeback in the UK indie music scene.
