Nottingham-based indie-rock artist Isaac Neilson has unveiled his latest single, ‘No Affection’, released on 30th January, marking the start of a bold and unrelenting 2026. The rising solo artist, known for his razor-sharp storytelling and genre-blending style, has set himself the audacious goal of performing a live gig every day of the year, making the single a striking statement of intent.

Produced by Tayte Nickols (Tayte Nickols) and recorded at ARC Studios with Matt Taylor (Matt Taylor), the track fuses Neilson’s alternative-rock energy with indie sensibilities and sharp storytelling. Biting guitar tones, fuzzy synths, punchy drums, and infectious vocal melodies create a track that carries both an emotive sting and a bold instrumental punch.

The song emerged from a creative pressure cooker. Neilson explains:

“No Affection started as an afterthought. I’d booked recording for three songs, and after the first two were finished, none of the demos felt up to the standard of the previous two. With the pressure of time, and my now fully expended budget, I dug deep into the archives and found the seeds of No Affection, with its working title—A Cat Named Paul. The demo consisted of the backing vocal synth hook, and the breakdown guitar riff. With those two foundational elements, the entire song was written in studio and recorded in one day. Somehow… we managed, and produced the best song of the session on that final Friday.”

Lyrically, the track draws inspiration from the writings of Steven Pressfield and explores themes of failure, growth, self-loathing, and the struggle to move forward despite oneself. The resulting narrative feels intimate, confessional, and raw.

Hailing from Buxton and now based in Nottingham, Neilson channels the grit and chaos of working-class life into a distinctive sound that fuses indie-rock with rap-inspired vocal delivery. Critics and fans alike have noted his versatility, drawing comparisons to Dominic Fike and Fontaines D.C. Over the years, he has electrified festival crowds across the UK, including YNot Quarry, Big Feastival, and Hockley Hustle, sharing stages with acts like Frank Turner, Jake Bugg, and The Lottery Winners. His work has been championed on radio by tastemakers including Dean Jackson, John Kennedy, and Charlie Ashcroft, gaining airtime on BBC Radio 2, Radio X, BBC 6 Music, and across BBC Introducing.

Looking ahead, Neilson’s 2026 mission of performing daily promises an ambitious celebration of grassroots venues, community, and sheer persistence. Highlights include a full-band show at Grand Central, Manchester on 10th March, with additional daily performances across the UK to be announced via his social channels.

‘No Affection’ is available now, setting the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable year for one of Nottingham’s most compelling indie voices.
