Track: Indie Dog’s ‘Vacillate’ — To Stay or Go?

Indie Dog’s new single “Vacillate” leans into contradiction in the best way. It’s super groovy, bassline-led, rhythm-forward, the kind of track that settles into your body almost immediately but the lyrics carry a quiet melancholy. At its core, the song circles uncertainty. It’s about wanting closeness, craving something steady, while sensing hesitation from the other side. That push and pull is mirrored in the title itself — vacillate — the act of wavering, of not quite choosing.

What makes the track compelling is the tension between sound and subject. The instruments
are layered with funk and groove that makes your feet move with a sense of surety but the lyrics
live in a space where doubt creeps in and starts asking the quiet, dangerous questions —
should you stay, or should you go?

There’s also something intimate in the delivery. Lines that suggest hiding away or promising “I’m
okay” feel less like declarations and more like negotiations. It’s vulnerability wrapped in rhythm.
This is made possible with the band’s synergy, with Seb’s raw vocals, Yak’s pulsing bass,
Steve’s standout riffs, and Dylan’s steady rhythm, every member bringing a quality that makes
this song yet another impressive release.

“Vacillate” may speak to anyone who has felt the anxiety of waiting for someone else to decide
and the ache of being almost chosen. Indie Dog is yet another reason to keep your eye on the
thriving talent found in South Africa. With a series of South African shows lined up, now’s the perfect time to follow Indie Dog and explore their sound. This year, they’ll also be taking it international, heading to Mexico in March 2026.
