Back in March, Marseille’s Mathieu Hocine kicked off his 2023 with the release of ‘You Are Everywhere’, which trailed his then-unannounced new record, the proper follow-up to 2020’s Lovers. We said there was more to come but couldn’t tell you what, but thankfully we can lift the lid on Hocine’s new album today with a premiere of his new single.

‘Run, Run’ is a cathartic electro-pop track that opens the new album on a high note, endlessly building to an energetic finale with Hocine’s melodic strengths on full display. It sets a high enough bar that you’d worry he might not be able to match it with the rest of the record, but we’ve heard the whole thing and are very pleased with the results. He definitely sticks the landing. Per the artist: “‘Run, Run’ is a song about pushing yourself, not getting discouraged, continuing to fight and keeping hope. It’s also a song about getting through certain crucial stages of life, like when you reach the age your parents were when they had you, and getting past them, past the figures, the pillars of life they represent. It’s a positive song, written in major (one of my few in this case), and very rhythmic that moves forward running at a very high tempo, which I composed with live performance in mind as well.”

The 11-track album is called Sunset Blue, out on Friday September 22nd. Check out ‘Run, Run’ below.
