Premiere: Lutruwita/Tasmania’s Lasca Dry has a ‘Messy Mind’ and we are the beneficiaries of the thrilling results.

Lutruwita/Tasmania’s pop sensation Lasca Dry is back with a new track ‘Messy Mind’ and we are honoured to premiere her new video for this luscious piece of hyper pop. We here at the antipodean outpost of Backseat Mafia are huge fans of her thrilling style of muscular pop laced with intelligence and humour.

‘Messy Mind’ has a muscular backbeat with Dry’s cool laconic vocals driving over the top, sparkling guitars splashing in and out and chanting back up singers adding to the sparkle. A chorus as expansive as the skies over the southern isle sends the track into the stratosphere: it’s a pop masterpiece that reverberates around the skull and sends shivers down the spine with a delicious thrum. Pure pop with a spine and a locked-in rock groove.

Dry says of the track:

Messy Mind feels like driving through smoke – you can’t see where you’re going, but you keep following the feeling anyway. It’s about love that’s messy and magnetic — connection, chaos, and the part of you that still wants to stay tangled

The single’s video amplifies the track’s tension between beauty and suffocation. Laced with red ribbons and dreamlike imagery, it’s both alluring and unsettling, a visual metaphor for love’s irresistible pull.  Dry says:

I wanted the clip to feel like a dream unraveling — soft and beautiful, but a bit suffocating too. The red ribbons became a symbol of that push and pull — connection, chaos, and the part of you that still wants to stay tangled up

The red theme and Dry’s mesmerising enigmatic presence adds a blinding luster to the track that already shines like the midday sun.

‘Messy Mind’ is out tomorrow (Friday, 14 November) and can be pre-saved here.
