Track: Cate Le Bon Releases ‘Always the Same’ Featuring St. Vincent

Cate Le Bon

Cate Le Bon has shared a new track, ‘Always the Same’, a follow up to her album Michelangelo Dying that was released last year. Recorded at Seahorse Sounds, the song arrives as a standalone release that both revisits and subtly reframes the sonic world of the album.

Built around a persistent, off-kilter riff, ‘Always the Same’ unfolds with a sense of controlled momentum, its looping riff acting as a steady undercurrent rather than a static hook. Despite its title, the track reinforces Le Bon’s reputation for continual evolution, balancing precision with restlessness and an ear for textures that feel slightly askew.

The song features a guest appearance from St. Vincent (Annie Clark), continuing a creative relationship that also saw Le Bon collaborate on Clark’s most recent album All Born Screaming. Here, their partnership feels measured and intuitive, with Clark’s presence integrated into the track’s atmosphere rather than positioned as a focal point.

Since the release of Michelangelo Dying, Le Bon has continued to refine a musical language that resists repetition, favouring nuance and subtle shifts over obvious reinvention. ‘Always the Same’ fits neatly into that approach, offering something familiar in tone while quietly extending her creative vocabulary.

Le Bon is set to tour North America in the coming weeks. While no Australian dates have been announced, the release of new material suggests further developments may yet follow.
