Track: Jordan Rakei – Say Something, plus album and world tour news

Jordan Rekei has announced his new album, ‘Origin’ is out on June 14th via Ninja Tune, and from it he’s released a single, Say Something.

It’s a happy go lucky smooth slice of modern soul at first glance. The sheen on the production glows, as Rekei’s silvery vocals warm the cockles against a backdrop of simmering backing vocals and this bubbling pot of a band underneath. Lyrically it fits in with much of the album in that it has this almost fear of a dystopian future –  ‘Say Something’ is essentially “about speaking up for what you believe in”, a call to arms for future humans to stand up against the AI systems which govern a now-dystopian world, or at least so says the press release. Certainly though the themes of the album are driven from these sort of ideas  “I’m worried that we’re losing a sense of connection,” he says.

Judging by this though, at least some of those fears are unfounded as ‘Say Something’ is totally engaging. Check it out, here
