Waripa, translating to ‘ceremony’ in Mutti Mutti, was an event like no other in this year’s RISING Melbourne festival program. A monumental celebration of Blak music and culture led by senior song man Uncle Kutcha Edwards, who guided the audience through a series of musical performances and conversations with esteemed guests such as Joe Geia, Bart Willoughby, Alice Skye, Emily Wurramara, Barkaa and Shellie Morris. This was a unique and unforgettable experience for those of us lucky enough to attend.
