Ahead of her debut self-titled album, out on Sunday Best Recordings on March 3rd, pop newcomer Alice Jemima has released her cover of Blackstreet’s No Diggity.

In Jemima’s own words, ‘I first chose to cover ‘No Diggity’ after hearing Chet Fakers striped-back version of it – but I wasn’t planning to do anything with it, I was just playing around in my studio. But then I played it to my family and friends and they loved it, so I put it up on my Soundclound. I definitely didn’t expect it to get the amount of plays that it did in such a short amount of time, I’m still completely bowled over by that, and this is why it’ll be on my album. ‘

She’s stripped it back, but with her wispy vocals and restrained synth chords, she’s given it a warmth and poise all of her own. It’s rather lovely.

You can catch Jemima’s enchanting live set on her first headline tour at the following dates in 2017, which also include a SXSW performance in Austin, America:

Friday 3 March Glasgow, Hug & Point
Saturday 4 March Manchester, Soup Kitchen
Sunday 5 March Bristol, Louisana
Monday 6 March London, Lexington
Friday 17 March Austin, SXSW
Wednesday 5 April Paris, Le Pop Up du Label
