Sydney melodic hardcore collective Bloom have released their new single Out Of Reach, a visceral preview of their upcoming album The Light We Chase. The track builds on the band’s reputation for emotional weight and sharp musicianship, balancing aggression and introspection with a refined sense of purpose.
Out Of Reach captures the unease of ambition — the constant push toward something just beyond grasp. “The idea that the goalposts are always moving is at the root of the song,” the band explains. “It’s about questioning whether the pursuit is worth it, and the dissatisfaction that can come when striving towards a goal.” The result is both muscular and reflective, shifting between guttural intensity and clean vocal clarity as frontman Jono Hawkey delivers the chorus with unguarded honesty.
Following the conceptual scope of 2024’s Maybe In Another Life, the band wrote and recorded The Light We Chase in only a few weeks, working with producer Sam Bassal (Ocean Grove, Void of Vision, Thornhill). The record explores themes of nostalgia, expectation, and loss — moments where hope and disillusionment collide. Guest appearances from Patrick Miranda (Movements), Mikaila Delgado (Yours Truly), and Jack Bergin (Void of Vision) expand the album’s emotional reach without diluting its core identity.
For Bloom, who formed in 2017, The Light We Chase represents more than a stylistic step forward — it’s a moment of self-definition. “We’re now at a point where we’re very confident in our sound, and we’re willing to take more risks,” says Hawkey. That confidence resonates across every layer of their work, from the dynamic production to the raw pulse that drives Out Of Reach.
Having recently toured alongside Silverstein, Polaris, and Make Them Suffer, as well as sold-out shows in Tokyo and an appearance at Good Things Festival, Bloom are carving out a space where melody and heaviness coexist without compromise. The Light We Chase doesn’t promise resolution — only clarity in the pursuit.
