‘Isolation’, from Sydney band ‘A Place In The Sky’ is a pulse-quickening and heady collection of jingle jangle pop classics, with vaulting choruses and harmonies that sparkle and shine. There is a fundamental pop sensibility that winds its way through the EP: a golden thread of sparkling guitars and indelible melodies.

Opening track ‘Judge and Jury’ positively bursts forth from the speakers with an unrestrained vitality and exuberance: glorious harmonies shimmer throughout.

The title track has a blistering pop dynamism inflected by a sixties sheen that fizzes and pops, augmented by some wild solos. ‘The Cradle’ beefs up the sound and delivers a shimmering wall of sound, again spun out with layered harmonies that are breathtaking. Final track ‘Silver Thread’ is a reflective yearning track that coasts along with an americana breeze.

At times ‘Isolation’ recalls The Byrds or Teenage Fanclub with its pop shine, melancholia and fresh sixties burnish.

A Place in the Sky is essentially the vehicle of songwriter and musician Gavin Angus-Leppan who has a storied career in the Sydney music scene. You can get ‘Isolation’ through the link below:

Another fine example of the rampant Marrickville sound.
