Chelmsford Summer Series is a new open-air live music programme taking place over 3 days in Central Park, bringing major UK and international artists to the city across the summer. Set within more than 35 acres of parkland in the heart of Chelmsford, the series combines large-scale live music with an accessible, city-centre setting.
With drummer Harry Judd, who was born in Chelmsford, and bassist Dougie Poynter, from nearby Corringham, the show marks a rare hometown moment for the band as part of the wider open-air summer programme, with further acts still to be revealed.
Set within 35 acres of parkland, Central Park provides a distinctive setting for live music, combining open green space with the city’s riverside and historic railway viaduct.
It’s been 21 years since McFly first formed – a journey which has taken them from their breakthrough hit Five Colours In Her Hair to last year’s Power To Play.
Across their career, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd have scored seven UK No.1 singles, seven Top 10 albums and over 10 million sales worldwide. They remain the youngest band ever to have a debut album enter the UK chart at No.1.
In 2005, they won the BRIT Award for Best British Pop Act, cementing their status as one of the UK’s defining pop bands of the era.
Their most recent album Power To Play saw the band return to a full-throttle rock sound, featuring standout tracks including ‘God Of Rock & Roll’ and ‘Where Did All The Guitars Go?’, and charted at No.2 on the Official Albums Chart.
Their live shows continue to evolve in scale, from intimate London club performances to sold-out arena tours, including a headline show at Alexandra Palace and recent 21st anniversary shows at The O2 in London.
