Edmonton-based St.Arnaud, the brainchild of singer-songwriter Ian St.Arnaud, is gearing up for the release of their self-titled third album on April 10, 2026, via Cordova Bay Records. Ahead of the album, the project drops the single ‘Midwest Superstardom’, accompanied by two additional tracks, ‘Blue Paper’ and the previously released ‘Love You! (For Real).’
‘Midwest Superstardom’ dives into the bittersweet life of a road warrior teetering between delusion and self-awareness, chasing the fading glow of a forgettable career while maintaining a grin. Backed by swaggering, country-tinged instrumentation that swells into full-throated Americana, ‘Midwest Superstardom’ poses a question familiar to every gigging musician: “What if the best we can hope for is to be the local touring band? Is that so bad?”
Bringing some beautifully thought through guitar work, with Americana melodies gliding over bright strummed guitars and some dreamy pedal steel which moves with a fluorescent elegance, the track blends honky-tonk heartbreak with arena-rock bombast, all delivered with a knowing sense of humour.
Ian explains: “This was an old idea that grew quickly in the fertile soil of a band under pressure in the studio. The question of ‘what if the best we can hope for as musicians is to be the local touring band?’ wasn’t a tough sell of an idea for anyone in the room to reckon with.”
The single is accompanied by two bonus tracks that reveal the band’s versatility. ‘Blue Paper’ brings horn-kissed indie reflections on the loss of a friend nearly a decade ago, while ‘Love You! (For Real)’ offers a white-soul-inflected meditation on superficial connection. Ian explains, “I prefer to sandwich harder emotions between a few lighter topics.”
Produced by Graham Lessard, the upcoming album captures the band’s improvisatory chemistry. Drummer Connor Mead, bassist Jesse Shire, and guitarist Tory Rosso locked into grooves that allowed the songs to evolve naturally, resulting in a collection that shifts seamlessly between country-soaked anthems, jazzy soul pockets, and lounge-indie confections.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Jonathan Richman, Paul Simon, and Orange Juice, the album pushes St.Arnaud’s slacker-softboy aesthetic toward a hybrid of roots and early-indie, producing a buoyant, wry collection that balances intimate storytelling with lively, danceable arrangements.
Already well established as on live stages, St.Arnaud has shared stages with Basia Bulat, Reuben and the Dark, and Lucy Rose, performing at festivals including The Great Escape, Reeperbahn, New Colossus Festival, FOCUS Wales, and Tallinn Music Week. The new single ‘Midwest Superstardom’ is out now via Cordova Bay Records, with the full-length self-titled album St.Arnaud arriving on April 10th, 2026.
