Track: St.Arnaud Shares Vibrant New Single ‘Love You! (For Real)’

Edmonton indie pop project St.Arnaud releases the heartfelt new single ‘Love You! (For Real)’. As comparable to Paulo Nutini and James Morrison as it is to Paul Simon, the single offers a taste of the upcoming self-titled third album St.Arnaud, arrives ahead of the record’s April 2026 release via Cordova Bay Records.

Led by songwriter Ian St.Arnaud, the project brings together elements of slacker rock, big band jazz and indie pop to create music brings vintage charm and warming indie crunch. The new album leans further into indie territory, with a sound that Ian calls “the goofy side of self-serious indie rock.”

The new single ‘Love You! (For Real)’ zeroes in on the fleeting intimacy of barroom connections the sudden declarations of affection, the promises of future hangouts, and the near-certainty that none of it will survive the next morning. Framed as a groove-heavy indie pop cut with white-soul leanings, bringing together plucky guitar work with swelling organs, jazzy brass accents, a warm rhythm section, and an unhurried groove create a sense of earnestness that contrasts with the song’s lyrical cynicism. Ian’s light, feel-good vocal delivery glides over the arrangement, blurring the line between irony and genuine warmth.

‘Love You! (For Real)’ balances humour and critique, ultimately circling a deceptively simple question: When everybody loves everybody, how can anybody love anybody?

“The idea of the song was to wrestle with sincerity, to poke fun at your new friend at the bar, telling you how much they love you (they don’t!) and want to hang out soon (you won’t!),” Ian says. The choice to lean into a white-soul palette was intentional, he adds, noting that it “both gives it conviction and adds to the joke.”

Produced by Graham Lessard, the recording session took shape once Connor Mead (drums), Jesse Shire (bass), and Tory Rosso (guitar) locked into the groove, with the rest, as Ian recalls, falling into place naturally. He describes the experience as a “blur,” adding, “It’s so great when you can start with a little kernel of an idea and everybody in the room just gets it and rolls with it.” One of the track’s most playful moments “this is a new time, a YOU TIME!” emerged spontaneously from a bout of laughter during a brief creative stalemate.

With past performances alongside Basia Bulat, Reuben and the Dark, and Lucy Rose, and appearances at festivals including The Great Escape, Reeperbahn, New Colossus Festival, FOCUS Wales, and Tallinn Music Week, St.Arnaud enters this next chapter with momentum. ‘Love You! (For Real)’ offers a knowing, groove-driven introduction, raising a glass to connection, while quietly questioning how real it ever was. Keep an eye out for updates on the upcoming album.
